The SPEAC project Phase I is completed successfully!

The Final Conference of the EU-funded SPEAC project was held on 10 November 2022. About a hundred participants, from European commission, EU Delegation, Embassies of EU State Members in China, and SPEAC team members and key partners attended online and onsite.

H.E. Jorge TOLEDO, Ambassador of the European Union to China welcomed the participants. He mentioned that China is one of the largest trading partners, China and the EU cooperate closely on product safety. The EU-funded SPEAC project trained Chinese manufacturers and related enterprises and institutions on EU product safety rules to ensure that safe products can be supplied to EU consumers throughout the supply chain. EU consumers’ trust in the safety of products made in China is essential to the development of companies’ business. China and the EU need to continue to work together to protect EU consumers.

Ms Blanca RODRIGUEZ GALINDO, Acting Director of the Directorate General of Justice and Consumers (DG JUST) of European Commission followed with her welcome address. She said that the SPEAC project (“Safe non-food consumer Products in the EU and China”), launched by the DG JUST, aims to inform Chinese businesses about European safety requirements for non-food consumer products. Over the past three years, in cooperation with dozens of professional partners, SPEAC has delivered numerous webinars and participated in many important conferences to spread the product safety message to hundreds of thousands of individuals. SPEAC offers practical tools – SPEAC Academy and SPEAC Finder to support Chinese manufacturers to produce safe consumer products.

The SPEAC project team reported the project results and the SPEAC main Chinese partners shared the cooperation stories and outlooks during the conference.
