SPEAC Training presented protecting consumers by designing and making safe Personal Protective Equipment

The webinar of the EU-funded SPEAC project on personal protective equipment (PPE) product safety was held in cooperation with the Chengdu Institute of Standardization and the EU Project Innovation Centre on 15 July 2022. More than 300 participants, mainly PPE manufacturers, traders, online sellers and related service companies and institutions attended.

PPE products are especially critical consumer products and must be perfectly safe because these products are presumed to effectively protect the consumers in their use. Adhering to the PPE product safety rules saves health and life of consumers. The webinar outlined the EU framework on product safety and consumer rights, presented applicable legislation and standards, especially specific safety requirements for different PPE categories, analyzed the top 3 risks and related examples of dangerous products, addressed common concerns, and provided practical advice.

The 90-minutes online training was moderated by SPEAC Team Leader Dr. Gerhard WEIHS, opening remarks was addressed by Deputy President of Chengdu Institute of Standardization Mr. YU Qiankao. SPEAC senior product safety experts Mr. Torben RAHBEK and Mr. Mark GARDINER delivered the training presentation and answered dozens of questions raised by the audiences.
