What is SPEAC?

SPEAC is short for “Safe non-food consumer Products in the EU and China”.

SPEAC is an exciting information and training programme designed to help Chinese manufacturers sell safely to the EU. This is good news for both manufacturers and EU consumers. The partnership project between the European Union and China is implemented by a consortium led by GIZ International Services (Germany) and is funded by the European Commission.

Businessmen solving problems

What we do?

Although the majority of products made in China and sold in the EU are safe and bring pleasure to EU consumers, sadly an unacceptable number are not safe. There may be a number of reasons for this, but having access to simple, practical information and support will help. Our product priorities are the toy and juvenile product sector and household electrical goods as the data shows this is where important safety issues still need to be tackled.

We know that finding reliable and relevant information on the EU rules can be tricky. There is a lot of official and unofficial information available online and the technical and legal language can be difficult to understand. Also, the EU rules can change over time to address new safety concerns, so keeping up to date isn’t always easy. The SPEAC project is here to help.

How we do it?

A range of user-friendly tools are being developed and these will include online information, webinars and virtual classrooms. You will find more information on this SPEAC website.

Finally, we recognise the increasing focus on online selling, and we are also creating help for merchants and others selling online based on a simple, practical checklist approach.

When we’ll do it

The current SPEAC II phase runs from November 2022 to November 2025.

Working together

By working closely in partnership with Chinese business associations, we are making sure that the information and training we create is of real and lasting value and targeted to your needs.
