RAISING AWARENESS ON EU RULES FOR SAFE CONSUMER PRODUCTS

What is SPEAC?

SPEAC is an EU funded initiative that aims at protecting consumers by raising awareness on the EU’s rules on the safety of non-food consumer products and on consumer protection. The project helps Chinese manufactures, retailers, importers, exporters, distributors, online operators, product buyers and other actors in the products’ supply chain to understand European requirements on product safety and consumer protection.

What do we do?

SPEAC proposes to stakeholders both in the public and private sector two interconnected layers of support:

a) Capacity development: a wide range of capacity development activities online and offline. The training activities and self-paced e-learning modules cover multiple sectors of interest.

b) Single entry point for information: innovative IT solutions and user-friendly tools in Chinese and English; SPEAC offers a single-entry point to understand and learn about EU product safety and consumer protection rules.

How we do it?

SPEAC works hand-in-hand with Chinese national and local stakeholders both in the public and private sector to spread information on EU product safety and consumer protection rules. SPEAC works directly with Chinese manufacturers, retailers, importers, exporters, distributors, online operators, product buyers and other actors in the product supply chain to raise awareness on EU rules for safe consumer products.

When we do it

SPEAC started its activities in November 2019 and will run until November 2025.

What has SPEAC achieved so far:

SPEAC Academy – an e-learning platform about EU product safety.
SPEAC Finder – an integrative and easy-to-use web-based tool with comprehensive content of EU product safety legislation, standards and further guidance.
22,000+ participants attended SPEAC webinars on EU product safety rules.
13,000+ participants attended SPEAC presentations at hybrid third-party events.
33,000+ participants attended SPEAC presentations at the events of online marketplaces.
689,000+ participants followed the live broadcasts of Xinhua Net Zhejiang.
Several high-level conferences and workshops organised.
